Villa Esperanza

I would like to share with you a video that was made this year for Villa Esperanza, which is where we have stayed in Managua with our students during the last couple academic trips we have taken each semester.

An explanation about what Villa Esperanza is: This shelter and little paradise (literally translates to Village of Hope) is located in Managua, about a half hour's drive away from the largest public garbage dump in Managua, called La Chureca. Here at the Villa with sponsorship and support from long-term and short-term missionaries and financial supporters, the at-risk girls who have undergone an application and selection process are first given their own beds with clean sheets, clothes and food. School  becomes an option and with it hope for a better future. In short, they are given a new life! Villa Esperanza goes further, by offering life-and social skills training, psychological evaluation and counseling, and medical care. Here the children receive personal care in a family environment. And they are taught about a loving Savior and are encouraged to love others as He would. The children of Villa Esperanza are given the tools they need to reach their full, God-given potential.

The following video shows a bit about where the girls have come from and also the hopes and dreams for where they are going. The video was very impacting for those of us who have stayed at Villa Esperanza and have gotten a chance to see where the girls come from and also to interact with them while at VE.

Here's a link to another video from about a year ago (many things have changed within La Chureca, the dump): http://vimeo.com/21128619 It's displaying one of the short-term mission teams that came through Forward Edge to work with the La Chureca ministries that have been in place to create long-term impact.
