"Tortas"

These are also types of "tortas."
Just not the type I'm talking
about though...

We're not talking about sandwiches or cakes. "Torta" is the name given to problems or little issues we may have. In the past week, I have learned that there are a number of any given tortas on a daily basis. Such is the condition of working to create, maintain, promote, and facilitate this new educational center of learning for Whitworth students and our guests. Torta: water leaking in through the windows and doors of our facilities, as it is blown in by the wind. Torta: the stench that creeps back up the pipes of sinks and bathtubs in our bathrooms at times. Torta: power outage (which are frequent up here, especially with much wind and stormy weather) resulting in downing our campus network for a day or so (no email, computers, printers). Torta: Yesterday, we woke up to learn that our cook had left the keys to the food pantry at home. (Una torta muuuuy grande when there are 40 people waiting to be fed, and what's more, a group that needs to leave on a service project trip before 8am!). And so it goes. Every morning we get up, we have come to realize that all these tortas just have to be taken in stride. They are resolved... poco a poco (bit by bit)... or not. As Lindy always says though, "Abrázalas" ("embrace," or better yet, "hug" the difficulties), and remember, "Life is good." ¡Pura vida, mae!
